Bilum bags are widely used accessories throughout New Guinea villages to carry a variety of items. Bilum bags are woven in a unique continuous figure-eight knotting technique.. Traditionally, bilums are made of bush twine from the inner bark of trees, however, more contemporary string bags are also made from commercial twine. Colors are from natural and commercial dyes. It is quite a nice little bag all trimmed with shells. This bilum measures 15 inches wide at the widest part, although keep in mind these things expand greatly. The bag is 8 inches tall, not including the strap. ML-27 Bilum Bag, Papua New Guinea
