#7174 The Iatmul people of the Sepik River believe their original ancestors rode into existence on the back of a crocodile. While revered, they are also feared since croc in New Guinea can reach up to 18 feet in length and will eat a person if given the right opportunity. Crocodiles are carved as figures and benches, on canoes, paddles, food bowl handles, and masks. The great critter is 21.5 inches long and nicely detailed. Middle Sepik River, Papua New Guinea
