New Guinea Jewelry – Kukukuku Man’s Necklace, #8188 $550.00

  • New Guinea Jewelry – Kukukuku Man’s Necklace, #8188
  • New Guinea Jewelry – Kukukuku Man’s Necklace, #8188

This rare man’s necklace is made of pig tusk and cane and comes from the Kukukuku or Angu people of the Papuan Gulf mountains.

The Angu people are a fierce and feared tribe. There are many stories from early explorers and Australian administrators who were attacked by the Kukukuku people, with a number of deaths recorded.

Even in the 1960s, when the Kukukuku villagers showed up at the big Highlands sing-sings, the rest of the people stayed out of their way.

This necklace is circa 1968 and measures 12.5 inches tall.
