New Guinea Wooden Sculpture – Kambot Village Storyboard, #8444 $90.00

New Guinea Wooden Sculpture – Kambot Village Storyboard, #8444

This wooden carving from the Kambot Village on the Keram River of Papua New Guinea shows an image of an ancestor as portrayed on the large bark panels that make up the gable of the man’s house.

Storyboards, such as this one, are carved from flat buttress trees roots which provide stronger material for the tribal artifacts to be taken home by New Guinea visitors. The carvings depict characters and events related to the village.

The tribal wooden sculptures were invented by three brothers from the Kambot village who wanted to make it easier for travelers to take home these artifacts.

This storyboard measures 17.5 inches tall by 22.5 inches wide.
