Oceanic Art - Woven Ancestor Clan Totem, #8532 $75.00

Oceanic Art - Woven Ancestor Clan Totem, #8532

This ancestor clan totem is from the Mumeri Village on the Krosmeri River in the middle Sepik River area. Using gourd and woven bush twine, these figures, also called doli in tok pisin are typically made by women.

These tribal dolls are used to tell clan stories and sometimes asked to answer questions or solve problems. Most of the figures are woven out of twine over gourds and painted with clay and vegetable-based paints and then decorated.

This totem measures 8 inches tall.
