Phallocrypt - Dani people of West Papua, #8189B $60.00

Phallocrypt - Dani people of West Papua, #8189B

This traditional phallocrypt comes from the Dani people of Indonesian Papua. While gourds are now worn mostly during ceremonial events, the Dani people, as well as several other remote tribes in Indonesia and New Guinea, still commonly wear phallocrypts.

Like the loincloth, gourds are intended to provide modesty in a tropical climate without making the wearer sweat any more than necessary. Although many of them seem far more cumbersome than need be.

This classic, plain gourd is made with woven rattan and bush twine. It measures 6.5 inches back to front, 6.75 inches top to bottom, with an opening diameter of 1.5 inches.
