Tribal Art – Woven Rooster Totem, #8520 $30.00

This woven rooster clan totem features vibrant splashes of red paint on its head and body. Woven clan figures, or doli in tok pisin, are made in many Sepik villages, but are most well known in the villages middle Sepik River villages of Mumeri and Kamanabit.

These New Guinea figures are made by the women and are used to teach clan stories and aid clan members through dreams and requests. Most of the figures here are woven out of twine over gourds and hand painted using clay and vegetable-based paints.

This totem measures 8.5 inches long and 4.25 inches tall.
