Tribal Art – Woven Pig Totem, #8521 $50.00

Tribal Art – Woven Pig Totem, #8521

Black clay along with vegetable-based paints decorate this woven pig clan totem from the Mumeri Village of the Krosmeri River of the middle Sepik area.

These woven and cane figures are made in a number of Sepik River villages but are most well known in the villages of Mumeri and Kamanabit.

The women of these villages weave the figures out of twine over gourds and use them to teach clan stories and aid members through dreams and request. Wild pigs, due to their strength, are often represented in these handcrafted totems.

This totem measures 10 inches long and 5 inches tall.
