Ceremonial Mask, Abelam People, Papua New Guinea. This superb Yam Ceremony mask is very tightly woven and beautifully painted. It was exhibited in the show “The Bird and the Flute – Mythic Images of New Guinea” in April of 2013 at the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery, Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD. it is 20.25 inches tall. Painted with all native-made clay and vegetable-based paints. It has been used in ceremonies.
