Very Colorful Abelam Bilum. Bilums are woven in a unique continuous figure-eight knotting technique. They serve as pockets, purses, backpacks, grocery/game bags, baby carriers. They are used to store food, belongings, & ceremonial items. Virtually everyone in New Guinea carries one
I recently obtain some older bilums that have been in a collection for many years. They have all been used and show that. This bag has a number of holes as you can see from the front and back images. However it is so pretty and colorful. It would make a good display piece and is priced accordingly in regards to the holes. It is 24 inches wide by 15 inches high, not including the strap.
