Yam Ceremony Decoration, Wosera area, New Guinea. These decorative elements are used with balsa or woven masks that are attached to the huge ceremonial yams grown my the men of the village. This particular fan dates to the 1970’s, painted with clay and vegetable-based paints. It shows having been used in a number of Yam Ceremonies. It is 13.5 inches tall.
