Yam Mask – Babamini, Abelam People, Papua New Guinea – #4830. These masks are ancestral spirit images used to celebrate the ancestors at the annual Yam Harvest Festival. Yams grown for eating are normal sized, however, ceremonial yams can be up to 12 feet long. Babamini are used to decorate these huge yams. It is 13.5 inches high. Woven cane and painted with village-made clay and vegetable-based paints.
