Flute Mask, Chengrebu Village, Papua New Guinea. These masks are attached as stoppers to the large ceremonial bamboo flutes that are kept in the men’s houses. The flutes are never taken out of the men’s house or seen by any man who has not been initiated. This one has two ancestor faces on it and is in the classic style for this village. It is painted with clay-based paints and has an age patina on it. It is 24.5 inches tall.
