Parrot Yam Mask – Babamini, Kamge Village, Papua New Guinea. This stunning mask is known as a parrot mask. It is nicely painted with all clay and vegetable-based paints. I has been used in more than one yam ceremony cycle. The balsa strips trimming the perimeter were to stick flowers and other decorations into. This is usually not preserved but this mask was collected in Kamge right after the yam ceremony. It is 18.25 inches tall.
